Is Technology and Corperate All What Its Cracked Up To Be?

Even though I'm working on some freelance projects, I still keep an eye on the job market and apply for jobs. Today I got on a job posting site where I had already set up an account. I saw a job that caught my eye so I decided to apply for it, and it led me to the employers site where I again had to set up another account with their business to even apply for a job with the company.

I think it's wonderful we can now apply for jobs in the comfort of our own home and not even leave our house. We save on gas, postage, fax costs and other miscellaneous expenses. But with applying on line, you need multiple accounts for several business, I need to keep a log sheet of all my on line accounts and who I'm registered with and passwords and user names. All of those accounts can leave you open to ID theft.

Almost every job you apply for now, you go through a process, or recruitment. In the old days you dressed up and dropped off a resume. Now you e mail in a resume to Human Resources, and they are mostly in another province or city.

So...has the Internet and corporate business really enriched our lives, or are we going backwards?

  1. Frankly, a lot of the technological BS I can do without. Despite the "advancements" we're not really much further ahead than we were when computers and IT was in its infancy. Sure, things can get done faster, but more often than not, people rely on computers, and technology for communication, and as a result that communication suffers because there is no facial expressions, vocal intonations, etc to properly relay the message, which in turn gets misinterpreted much of the time. As far as the emailing resume's or posting them on company sites goes, I really don't trust it. As someone that graduated with an IT degree, I know what can happen to prevent those applications/resumes from getting to their intended destinations.

  2. I don't like them either to be honest with you...I put my resume on private now...I'm getting these recruiting e mails from the states....I have no idea why! But I'm not impressed!
